Februar Image, R+S and Vista Pagoda are working together with their client on a 6 stars resort & spa project called Luxurious Maldives Resort. One of the first steps in the process was to conduct a design workshop discussing the details of the design and construction development with Mr. Ali Shareef and Mr. Abdul Aleem (Amooo), the local architect, engineer and water solution consultant from Maldives.

Working across the world

Working across the world is not without its challenges. We are working across cultures, on an island with different geographical and climate issues. Both require careful and precise planning.  For example, sea level changes can be serious enough to cause islands to be abandoned. Trying to keep on top of the constant changes in the Maldives resort market has kept us very busy. To make the resort outstanding from others we carefully incorporate groundbreaking design thinking and operational optimization. Working with local architects and engineers, who are expert in local design criteria, helps us learn from each other and bounce around new ideas.

Design workshops and prototyping are essential for hospitality design

In the design thinking process, workshops and prototyping play a critical role, especially in the design of hospitality projects.  It gives us a chance to recheck our design, ensure it is going in the right direction and remains operationally feasible. We can study this through trial and error.

For example, on this project we have built a mock-up villa, located in Samed Island, Thailand, to test our design and service. The mock-up is ‘a must’ to ensure designer and engineer get to see the real space, function and aesthetic, but also reassure clients that the project will be as special as planned.

This project is very exciting for the whole team, and all of Contour Group, as it gives us a platform to show our design talent to a new audience. We love to learn and develop our skills further, and this unique environment and our design partners have given us new situation to do that.
